Le Bebè Gèant
An art project by the Casentino-born artist Sara Lovari
Le Bébé Géant is an art project by Sara Lovari, born from the desire to give a visible form to the memories and emotions of childhood.
At the heart of the work stands a pair of giant shoes – 110 cm tall – which the artist initially created in cardboard and later recreated in iron.
These shoes travel through various Italian cities, symbolically worn by passersby and photographed, turning each encounter into a moment of shared participation and reflection.
The Experience
Wearing such an oversized shoe is a simple yet surprising gesture.
It forces us to change perspective, to slow down, to remember what it was like to move as children – with curiosity, wonder, and fragility.
Each participant leaves behind a trace, an emotion, a fragment of their own story.
In this way, the work is renewed each time, becoming a collective narrative made of images, gazes, and imagined steps.
From Lightness to Matter
The transformation of the shoes – from light cardboard to solid iron – mirrors the evolution of the project itself.
The fragile, traveling material becomes a stable sculpture, a memory fixed in time.
It is a symbolic passage, much like the one each of us experiences while growing up – when play gives way to awareness, yet continues to live within us.
